Record the process of filling out tax information and signing the W8 form on Steamwork. Due to the China-US tax agreement, only 10% tax is levied if the Chinese taxpayer number (ID number) is filled out. If the Chinese taxpayer number is not filled out and "no taxpayer number" is selected, a 30% tax will be charged.
Whether it is a 10% or 30% tax, you will receive a 1042-S tax form in March of the following year. The difference is that the 10% tax form can only be used for tax reporting, while the 30% tax form can be used for both tax reporting and tax refund.
After receiving the tax form, go to the official website of the US Internal Revenue Service to download and print the W7 and 1040NR forms, fill them out, and then send the W7, 1040NR, 1042S forms, and a copy of your passport to the US Internal Revenue Service to apply for tax reporting or tax refund. For first-time applicants, a new ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) will be generated for you.
